Coach Jeff began coaching in the late 1970s with the Solotar Swim Team with a simple goal: to make the sport more inclusive and to broaden the definition of success in swimming. From the start, he believed this sport should offer much more than simply the goal of having the fastest times or making the biggest meets. Swimming can (and should) build confidence, discipline, friendships, and a lifelong relationship with the water.
His goal as a coach has always been to focus on individual progress and personal goals rather than only qualifications and rankings. Success looks different for every swimmer and helping athletes discover their own potential and work ethics has always been the most rewarding part of coaching.
Over the years he have had the privilege of training multiple Olympians, coaching on an Olympic Team, and being a member of several USA National Teams. With that being said, some of his most meaningful work (and best memories) has come at the community level. Whether that is the early mornings with the group or the 25 years he have spent with his wife, head coaching our neighborhood NVSL team, the Mantua Marlins.
Through it all, his philosophy has remained the same: keep the sport fun, welcoming, and engaging for every swimmer at every level.
